Sweet stuff

I recently finished 63 illustrations for a kids' book on the history and culture of sweets, to be published this fall by Tundra Books. Here is a sampling (no pun intended) of the work I did on it. Incidentally, a few nights ago on CBC there was an excellent documentary on the history and politics of sugar, called Big Sugar. I had nightmares that evening. Thankfully I've been off sugar for a few years and plan to keep it that way.

The book is quite appropriately called "Sweet!"

All of these are great, but especially that last plate of treats -- noone draws tastier looking food than you!

I like the guy in pink the best, he's the bee's knees and the ant's pants! The girl chugging down the cracker jack is going to choke on her prize though. Hooray! That means two prizes, a parachute trooper and a tacheotomy.

Mmmmmmmmsugar! How on earth have you stayed off sugar for two years!? In the States scientists were trying to see if sugar cravings were like salt, the more you eat the more you crave, but they were unable to complete the study because they could not get the subjects off sugar long enough to test the theory!

AND you draw sweets with more passion then anyone. I could really go for one of everything that you drew so beautifully!

Hey V!! Aw, thanks for your *sweet* comments, hee hee! I have to admit, whenever I opt for sugar-free chocolate or ice cream or whatever, it really kind of sucks. So once in a while I give in to temptation -- but so much less than before! I use to have sugar all the time: in coffee and tea, eat cookies AT LEAST one a day (I'm talking those big ones, too), and frappaccinos, desserts, cakes, McDonalds sundaes, etc etc. But I'm much better now... : P I'm ready though, when Peak Oil hits and we stop getting imported white sugar from the caribbean, all we'll have is fruit and honey!!
